Using Technology in the Classroom

I would like to be able to let the students use the Internet to do research through out the year.  I would also like to show video clips, pictures, and use different computer programs to create projects.  That being said I have a couple of things to share with you as parents.
I think preparation for safe Internet use starts at home. Children need to understand that using the different modes of technology  is a privilege and not a right.  If the students understand that there are dangerous things out there it will be easier for me as a teacher to integrate more technology into their lessons. I have gone over the rules and regulations of acceptable Internet use within our classroom. I have a poster in the states the “Ten Rules of Computer Ethics”, you can view it at the following website Computer Ethics
I have also borrowed an Internet usage contract from another school.  I have gone over the contract with the class and asked them to take it home and review it with you all.  Please sign and return the contract.  If your child has misplaced the contract, you may find it here: Internet Contract.
Just so we are clear on what will happen if a student misuses technology I have posted the consequences below.
If a student violates the ethical usage of technology the following measures will be taken.
  • 1st Violation: Student will receive a warning
  • 2nd Violation: A note will be sent to the parents and technology usage will be monitored
  • 3rd Violation: Student will no longer be able to use technology in the classroom
If the violation is severe, I will have to report it to the proper authorities immediately.
Thank you so much for working with me to make this year a fun and learning filled semester for your child!
